Sustainable Tips For Pet Toys
Living sustainably with pet toys involves adopting eco-conscious practices that minimize environmental impact while ensuring our pets enjoy engaging and safe play. Consider these tricks:
DIY Creations: Get creative by making your own pet toys from upcycled materials. Old T-shirts, socks, or denim can be transformed into durable and entertaining toys, reducing waste and costs.
Natural and Biodegradable Materials: Opt for toys made from natural, biodegradable materials like hemp or organic cotton. These materials are not only gentler on the environment but also safe for pets who love to chew.
Choose Durable Options: Invest in high-quality, durable toys that withstand rigorous play. Choosing long-lasting toys reduces the need for frequent replacements, minimizing waste.
Interactive and Sustainable: Select interactive toys that engage pets mentally and physically. Toys that dispense treats or have hidden compartments encourage play while maintaining sustainability.
Toy Rotation System: Implement a toy rotation system to keep playtime exciting without constantly acquiring new items. This ensures toys are used to their fullest potential, promoting sustainability.
Eco-Friendly Catnip Choices: If you have a cat, choose catnip toys made from organic or sustainably sourced catnip. These alternatives provide your feline friend with the same playful experience while being kinder to the environment.
By integrating these tricks into your pet's playtime routine, you contribute to a more sustainable lifestyle, fostering a healthier planet for both your pets and future generations.
Cat Fact Corner
Polydactyl cats are cats that have extra toes. Polydactylism affects roughly 10% of domesticated house cats. It can affect any breed of feline, but it is most common in Maine Coons and Pixie Bobs. Ernest Hemingway, literary giant and cat enthusiast, shared an enduring love for polydactyl cats. These feline companions roamed freely at his Key West home. Hemingway was so captivated by these unique cats that their descendants, with the distinctive trait, continue to inhabit his former residence—a lasting legacy of the Nobel Prize-winning author’s affection for these charming and quirky creatures.

Pet Poem Place
My Dog
By Stephanie, Age 8, Florida USA
My dog is a Cock-a-poo,
She acts like a rock-a-poo.
When she sleeps she barks,
And when she is awake she sparks.
She is a real joy
Just don’t let her get your favorite toy!
She eats everything in sight,
But she is very despite.
She is not fat,
She is as skinny as a gnat!

Pet Of The Week - Glenn and Buzz
The story of these two friends goes back to 2015, but in case you missed it back then, here is their adorable story. Glenn is a blind Jack Russell Terrier. His buddy, Buzz, is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. These two inseparable friends were found in a sea tunnel in the Northern part of England and wound up in the hands of Stray Aid, a rescue shelter in Durham, England.
Glenn relies on Buzz to be his eyes, and these two created such a strong bond together. Glenn gained confidence with Buzz gently guiding him around while taking walks, leading him towards food and water bowls, and helping him to avoid and navigate obstacles. If these two ever became separated, they would get distressed and begin to bark. So it was quickly realized by the shelter that these two would need to be adopted into the same home, remaining the dynamic duo they had become.
As their story went viral in 2015, the shelter was flooded with potential adopters. Stray Aid eventually settled on a nearby family to take the pair into their home where they will be loved and cared for for the remainder of their days. This is a heartwarming story of two dogs who became best friends and companions and were fortunate enough to be rescued by caring people who were able to find a loving home so they could continue to be together. Congratulations to you Buzz, for being there in support of your buddy Glenn, and to Glenn for showing determination through hardship.
Why Do Cats Knead?
Cats knead as a comforting and instinctive behavior developed during kittenhood. Kittens knead their mother's belly to stimulate milk flow and show contentment. Adult cats often retain this habit, using it as a means of relaxation, stress relief, and territory marking. When a cat kneads its owner, it signifies a deep sense of trust, affection, and comfort. The rhythmic motion, typically accompanied by purring, creates a bonding experience.
Kneading is a behavior expressing security and attachment. While mostly harmless, owners should be mindful of their cat's claws and provide a soft surface for kneading. Understanding this feline expression enhances the human-cat relationship, creating a nurturing and positive connection between the cat and its owner.
